Honeymoon in Ireland - Highlights

A Honeymoon in Ireland: Our highlights

While many newlyweds choose some dreamy beach destination for their honeymoon (which is perfectly fine), we spent 9 glorious days traveling around the perimeter of Ireland.  We had dreamed of this trip for years and were so excited to finally be going. What our honeymoon lacked in relaxation, it made up for in adventure, feeding into our wonder and leaving us satisfied with memories and experiences. This is what our Ireland looked like:

Dublin

Dublin is quite simply a melting pot. Here more than anywhere in Ireland, one can see people from all walks of life sight-seeing, living, working and performing in the loud and crowded streets. It’s easy to miss things in the chaos, but if you look closely, both high and low, you will find some charming and quirky details that make Dublin truly unique.

Exploring castles in Ireland

We visited seven castles and abbeys while in Ireland and all of them were so different. Some were grand and well preserved for tourism, others were abandoned and ruined. Personally, my favorite ones were the ones that we could freely explore without anyone partitioning off sections.

Taking the high road to Dingle

Dingle Peninsula, Ireland

After passing through Kilarney, we decided to continue on to Dingle. This wild ride was full of blind winding narrow lanes and a little white knuckle driving. The pass through the mountains to get to dingle was absolutely breath taking. We pulled over to take some photos.

Hiking the Cliffs of Moher

I was so excited for the Cliffs of Moher, but I really wasn’t prepared for how magnificent it would be. We hiked all the way to hag’s head, a 10 km hike fighting the power of the howling wind the whole way.

One Night in Belfast

Belfast Titanic Quarter Ireland

We had only one night to spend in Belfast, but it was truly memorable. Our adventures took us all around town but the highlight had to be when we were serenaded by a band at Fibber Magee’s because we were newlyweds.

Hiking Killarney National Park

Killarney National Park

We spent a day wandering around Killarney National Park and it is probably the second best day of our trip. Killarney makes up the Ring of Kerry and boasts lush green fields, a peaceful abbey, and a gorgeous waterfall.

Walking across the Giant’s Causeway

Our last must-see site in Ireland was the Giant’s Causeway. After leaving Belfast, we spent the morning walking down to the causeway and marveling the natural phenomenon, then hiking up the ridge for a spectacular view.
