Exploring Phoenix and Scottsdale attractions with co-workers on a business trip

Every year, my company gathers in Arizona for a week of collaboration and meetings. In our down time, we drink and explore the area.

Pheonix Art Museum

In between meetings, we snuck off to the Phoenix Art Museum. My primary reason for wanting to go was to see the fireflies infinity mirror room by Yayoi Kusama. We entered the room in darkness, an fell into oblivion. The mirrors created endless reflections of the “fireflies” making us feel like we were at the center of the universe. After a time, we moved on, but some stayed in there for quite a while, sitting on the floor to get the full effect.

Phoenix Botanical Garden

One night our boss planned a team out ting of going to dinner and visiting the Phoenix botanical garden. There is a special show at night where they light up the cacti to music and you wan calk around and get a completely different experience in the day.

Telesian West

Frank Lloyd Wright built a winter home up in the hills of Scottsdale that is available for touring. As we walked the grounds in the late afternoon, our guide told us the history of the building and how it was his lab. He said architects would come from all over to train and learn from him. We learned about his philosophies on architecture and design, and how he believed in integrating his home into it’s environment so that it blended in.

The tour ended just as the sun was setting and we got to witness the most beautiful sunset.
