What it's like to visit the Museum of Ice Cream San Francisco

One of the things I both love and dismay about San Francisco is the city's ability to reinvent itself. With such a small seven by seven-mile area to call home, new businesses have to get creative with where they set up shop.

For the Museum of Ice cream, that meant inhabiting the Savings Union Bank, built in the 1910s. The building is located in the middle of the financial district on the corner of Grant and O'Farrel. The tall, slate columns stand resolute, adorned with long pink banners and unicorns in its windows.

From the exterior, it feels like an odd juxtaposition, but once you cross that magical threshold, you are teleported into a world of pink sugary delight. Each themed room comes with treats and ample opportunities for selfies. My particular favorite was the popsicle room, the rainbow room, and the rock candy room.

And so it begins…

Much like real ice cream, there’s not much substance to the museum. It’s a glorified collection selfie station, but if you can overlook the superficiality of it all and just focus on the delight, it can be a fun way to spend an hour goofing off with some friends.

Go with curiosity and courage
